A hundred formative years, from the German Empire to reunification, from Peter Behrens to Günter Behnisch – a hundred years that shaped the urban face of modern-day Germany. The periods of upheaval in 1918-19, 1933 and 1945 alter the external conditions. From 1945 onwards architecture is split up into different occupation zones. After the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic are founded, developments in East and West are defined by competition and convergence.
