A BRAIDED HEART

Brenda Miller

Essays on Writing and Form

Highly engaging, occasionally humorous, and always relatable, these seventeen essays mark the first time award-winning author Brenda Miller's exceptional and instructive writing-themed essays come together in one volume.
Organized into three sections that create a rewarding narrative trajectory, A Braided Heart begins with essays on the origins of Miller's writing life, then moves onto the maturing experiences and insights of a writer and teacher, and ends with Miller as the seasoned writer now nurturing and mentoring beginners. While the essays share the theme of writing, the combination of instructive and personal essays offers a varied and compelling reading experience.

A thoughtful and inspiring collection for writers and word enthusiasts or anyone who just appreciates great writing, as well as teachers and students.

Brenda Miller, a six-time Pushcart Prize recipient, is the author of five essay collections, the most recent of which is An Earlier Life. She has co-authored three editions of Tell It Slant: Creating, Refining, and Publishing Creative Nonfiction with Suzanne Paola. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the Bellingham Review for seventeen years and her own poetry has appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, Sweet, Bellevue Literary Review, and Psaltery and Lyre. She lives in Washington state, where she is a Professor of English at Western Washington University, and associate faculty at the Rainier Writing Workshop.
