A PITY PARTY IS STILL A PARTY
Now more than ever, we must learn to feel uncomfortable feelings. Our future depends on our ability to sit with our challenges and learn from them. But that doesn't have to mean punishing ourselves - if we're going to cry our eyes out anyway, why not do it in style? A feel-good guide to feeling bad, A Pity Party Is Still A Party is a book that helps us enjoy the unenjoyable, celebrate the uncelebrateable, and find a way to lean into hard times.
Playful, at times irreverent, but always sincere, Balzer is the grown-up Miss Frizzle for the therapy generation. Featuring activities designed to appeal to a variety of issues and experience levels alongside accessible essays that help readers understand the physiology and function of their emotions, Pity Party finds the silver lining, but only after encouraging us to play in the rain.
Chelsea Balzer is a therapist (MA, PLMHP), writer, musician (Vital Organs, Betty Rubble), and the founder of Big Feels Lab. Her work has been featured in Elephant Journal, Omaha Magazine, Encounter Magazine, Plainsongs, Okay Donkey Magazine, Cigar City Poetry Journal, Her Family Magazine, Thought Catalog, and others.
Growing up at-risk, Chelsea was exposed early on to addiction, homelessness, and the myriad ways intergenerational trauma damages the health of a community. Through her own recovery process, she found herself becoming involved in an array of social movements and has since gained a dynamic understanding of the overlapping nature of social progress and personal healing.
