[A] clever meta picture book... this triad of cantankerous creatures is absurdly funny, and their grouchy rebuttals to the narrator's every request strongly echo a familiar push and pull between kids who want to do their own thing and adults who would rather the youngsters get in line. The play on the popularity of these three particular animals (imaginary or not) brings a knowing wit to the outing, sure to please the kid who rolls their eyes at sparkly shirts or dinosaur-printed PJs. The bold, slick digital art skillfully uses color blocking to put the trio front and center, and while the setting never changes, the postures and compositions do, giving dynamic movement to the spreads.
