A WHALE OF THE WILD

Roseanne Parry Lindsay Moore

In this stand-alone companion to the New York Times bestselling A Wolf Called Wander, Vega, a young orca, must lead her brother on a perilous journey to be reunited with their family. Features gorgeous illustrations throughout.
For Vega and her family, salmon is life. Though not as plentiful as they once were, the salmon that fill the Mouth Passage in the Salish Sea provide for her family of orcas, keeping them strong during the sparse and hungry winters.

Vega is learning to be a salmon finder, preparing for the day when she will be her family's matriarch. But then Vega and her brother Daneb are separated from their family, and a devastating earthquake and tsunami renders the seascape unrecognizable. Vega must use every skill she has to lead her brother across the sea and back to their family. Will Vega become the leader she's destined to be?

A Whale of the Wild portrays the delicate ecosystem of the sea and the threats to marine life. Like Wolf, this book will be impeccably researched and vetted, illustrated throughout, will include a map and backmatter, and will be an excellent read-aloud for parents and teachers. Perfect for fans of Sara Pennypacker's Pax.

Rosanne Parry is the author of the acclaimed novels A Wolf Called Wander, Heart of a Shepherd, Second Fiddle, and Written in Stone.
