AN AMERICAN IN PROVENCE

Jamie Beck

Art, Life, and Photography

Be transported to the south of France with this beautiful tome of photographs from Provence for art lovers and armchair travelers alike.
Thumbing through the pages of this book is as if to be magically transported to Provence, with photography so extraordinary, readers will find themselves doing a double-take to be certain they aren't looking at paintings by old masters. The exquisite portrait, scenic, and still-life photography is exactly what fans of Jamie Beck's Instagram account have come to expect and love.

Beck's story begins when she was working as a top New York City photographer, shooting campaigns out of her own commercial studio for companies like Chanel, Nike, and Microsoft. She decided she needed a break from it all and that she would move to Provence for a year. Now it's five years later, and Jamie has become known as "An American in Provence," as she chronicles her life there via her photography, including the birth of her daughter, Eloise, all in the most breathtaking way.
Beck's photography is so extraordinary, it's easy to find yourself staring at the images and wondering if they can possibly be real. Just as she has also been known to do on her Instagram, in this book, Beck shares her tips and techniques for how she creates such incredible photos, and she tells the story of her personal journey over the last five years and ultimately her decision to not return home. Favorite recipes she's learned along the way, all photographed exquisitely as well, are shared as well, including Braised Beef Stew, Spring Chicken with Herbs de Provence, Potatoes with Truffle Butter, Lemon Meringue Tart.

Whether you call this an art book, a cookbook, or a fantasy travelogue, it is sure to delight both long-time fans and newcomers who have ever wanted to escape from reality and immerse themselves in a world of timeless beauty.

Jamie Beck began earning her living as a photographer by the age of thirteen. By twenty-eight, she opened her own commercial photographic studio in lower Manhattan. Jamie has shot campaigns and editorials for some of the world's most famous brands, including Chanel, Donna Karan, Nike, Oscar de la Renta, Google, Samsung, and Microsoft. Her work has appeared under the mastheads of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, on Netflix, and in digital ad displays for Disney. With her camera never leaving her side, Jamie has spent almost twenty-five years traveling the world, one photographic frame at a time. In 2016, she took what was to be a one-year sabbatical to create a personal body of work in the South of France, which changed the entire course of her life, one that blossomed into a career as an art photographer and delivered her a French-born baby girl named Eloise. Jamie lives in Provence with her husband and daughter. Follow her on Instagram, @jamiebeck.co
