AUNTIE MENG AND THE PLASTIC DAM
BOOK 1 IN THE AUNTIE MENG SERIES
The books have been developed to work on several levels; first and foremost, each book will have a strong environmental message. Secondly, they are designed to help with English learning. Thirdly, we hope they will help improve literacy levels. And lastly, we want them to improve the reader’s use of their own language.
Each book will come with a ‘teaching pack’ for use by teachers or parents. These will feature a number of fun learning activities, from vocabulary games to poster design to
organising local cleanups. We envisage the book as not only being easy to translate into any language but also, if required, easily adaptable to different countries. While we see the primary target areas as being Asia, we also see Europe and the USA as being open to these fantastic stories.
In the long term, we see the Auntie Meng character as being a potential Asian version of Dora the Explorer. As such, the ongoing markets also offer opportunities for websites, apps, merchandise, and even animated series. We conducted various focus groups in conjunction with educators, both in Asia and in Europe, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
