Half-English, half-Norwegian author Kristian tells the tale of his own Norseman ancestors the master seafarers and brutal warriors who ravaged European coasts. A young man, Osric, is taken prisoner from his adopted home in England and submerged in the Norseman's world his life spared only because of his physical affliction, a blood-red eye. To the English Christians the eye is the mark of evil and the bane of Osric's life, but to the Norseman, it's a sign of Odin's favour. As the story sweeps from the English coast to Constantinople, Osric (renamed Raven) must prove himself worthy of a home among the warriors.
