COOKING WITH HEMP BRED
Daniel Kruse Mayoori Buchhalter
Hemp or Cannabis is a genus of plants which has been used for a wide variety of purposes,
such as fibre and clothing production, medicinal purposes, nutritional products and as recreational drugs. Due to its use as a drug (hashish, marijuana) the cultivation of hemp was virtually banned in recent decades and therefore the use of hemp products fell into oblivion. Despite its negative relevance the commercial success of hemp food products has grown considerably within recent years. Hemp oil is a vegetable fat obtained from the seeds of hemp (Cannabis sativa) – and must therefore be distinguished from the essential oil of hemp, which is obtained by distillation from the leaves and flowers of the hemp, and from hashish oil, which is produced as a resin extract from the resin of hemp. Hemp seeds don’t contain any significant amounts of THC and therefore have no intoxicating impact, the same applies to the various oils produced from the seeds. Hemp oil is a high quality plant oil with a slightly nutty taste and is often used for cooking and salad dressings. This book presents many easy and delicious recipes for using hemp oil and hemp nuts – a healthy variety to your daily nutrition.
