Depression & Other Magic Tricks is the debut poetry collection by Sabrina Benaim, one of the most-viewed performance poets of all time, whose poem “Explaining My Depression to My Mother” has become a cultural phenomenon with over 5,000,000 views. SABRINA BENAIM is a Toronto-based writer, teaching artist and one of the most-viewed performance poets of all time. Sabrina began doing spoken word poetry when she discovered a tumour in her throat and a friend pointed out that it may have been caused by swallowing all the things she wanted to say. Sabrina went on to become a member of the Canadian championship-winning 2014 Toronto Poetry Slam team and, in 2015, she represented Toronto at the Women Of The World Poetry Slam. Sabrina has written poems for ESPNW, The Government of Canada and, most recently, made her Canadian television debut with Sport Chek, writing and voicing the third instalment of their #WhatItTakes Olympic Manifesto video series. Her bestselling debut book, Depression & Other Magic Tricks, was published in August 2017.
