Dietrich Bonhoeffer
On the Road to Freedom - A Portrait
In June 1939 Dietrich Bonhoeffer was offered a job in New York, but the young theologian decided against exile. Shortly before the beginning of the Second World War he returned to Berlin to fight for a better Germany. A period of conspiracy, camouflage, imprisonment, loneliness and confidence follows. Wolfgang Huber explains why these existential conditions inspired him his most popular writings, such as his "Ethics" and his "Resistance and Surrender". The new approaches of the great "unfinished" theologian, who was executed on the 9th of April 1945 at Hitler's personal order, continues to encourage people to believe and act consequently.
