DONKEY-DONKEY

Roger Duvoisin

Donkey-Donkey (New York Review of Books, 2016; Knopf, 2007). Donkey-donkey has the strangest ears on the farm—they are long and pointy and stick straight up from his head. He wants a new look, and all of the other animals are eager to help. But no one can agree on how Donkey-donkey's ears would look best. Hector, the dog, suggests wearing them down like his. Fuzzy-fuzzy, the lamb, insists that it's most fashionable to wear them off to the side like hers. But what if Donkey-donkey is simply meant to wear his ears up, like a donkey's?
