EAT FOR THE PLANET

Nil Zacharias Gene Stone

By 2050, the world will need to feed 9 billion people, yet the demand for food will be 60 percent greater than it is today. Meanwhile, global greenhouse gas emissions have nearly doubled in the last 50 years, and atmospheric concentrations of the major greenhouse gases are at an all-time high. Coincidence? Nope. Our endless craving for cheap meat and other animal products is driving us to ruin. But there’s still time to change our ways.
EAT FOR THE PLANET by Nil Zacharias and Gene Stone explores the relationship between the problems of food security (having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food) and climate change in an accessible, fact-filled book that will appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike. We don’t all have to become vegans, but we DO have to end factory farming and move back towards our plant-based, locally-produced origins, or risk destroying the planet. Scary though it sounds, this book will be inviting and easy to digest – easier than a Big Mac, for sure. The three pillars of veganism, animal advocacy, health, and environmentalism, come together in one book for the first time. Zacharias and Stone are two of the most influential leaders in the vegan world, and both have dedicated their lives to animal rights, food sustainability, and the vegan way of life.

Nil Zacharias is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of One Green Planet, one of the fastest growing platforms in the food sustainability and green space. Nil believes empowering people to make planet-friendly food choices and supporting innovation in the food industry are the most tangible solutions we have to our current climate crisis. He has written extensively about the environmental impact of food and was one of the first voices calling for a shift towards plant protein as a way to transform our food system into a more sustainable and just one. Prior to One Green Planet, Nil worked for over 12 years in the digital media and online advertising space in various, business, operations, policy and consulting roles. He spent 5 years at Yahoo!, where he built/ran several cross-functional teams and global product and business initiatives. Prior to that, he worked at DoubleClick (acquired by Google), PwC Advisory, and as an attorney specializing in privacy and intellectual property law.

Gene Stone is the co-author of Forks Over Knives, How Not to Die and Living the Farm Sanctuary Life. Gene Stone attended Stanford University and Harvard, and then worked for the Peace Corp in West Africa. He’s been an editor at Harcourt Brace, Bantam Books, and Simon & Schuster. He’s also worked at Esquire Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and California Magazine.
