Elizabeth Minchilli spent two years of her adolescence living in Rome, and then returned to live there as an adult. EATING ROME is her homage to the city that feeds her both literally and figuratively.
It is a personal, quirky, entertaining and fun look at the city through a food-focussed lens. While Italian food might top most people’s list of things they love to eat (pizza, pasta and gelato) in EATING ROME she will take readers on the side streets and hidden alleys of Roman food, sharing her personal, day-to-day experience of the city. Minchilli has been reporting on the the best of Italy for the last 20 years. Through hundreds of magazine articles and six books, she has shared what she knows and loves.

EATING ROME is a natural extension of her work writing her blog, Elizabeth Minchilli in Rome, and apps over the last two years. Her best-selling app, Eat Rome, is a guide to her favorite places throughout the city: restaurants, coffee bars, markets, gelaterie, etc. EATING ROME will be divided into thematic chapters which will look at different aspects of Roman food culture. Whether it’s coffee, pizza, gelato or just going shopping in the morning for a loaf of bread, each chapter will include not just anecdotes and personal stories, but also explore the cultural and historical references that make these subjects timeless. While the book will read as a narrative, there is also the takeaway aspect. Every chapter will contain 2 to 3 recipes, as well as a box of practical listings (i.e How to Order a Coffee in Rome; The Five Rules of Gelato Eating, etc.)

EATING ROME will go beyond the already popular apps and blog. Elizabeth will tell her own story as an American living in Rome, and also as someone who has more or less grown up there. Personal stories will be the vehicle through which the food of this city will come to life. It is not simply a list of restaurants, or a grouping of recipes, but an intimate look into a life that most people dream of living.

Elizabeth Minchilli is the author of six books on the joys of Italian life. Minchilli's passion for Italy led her from her native United States, where she studied architectural history, to Italy in 1987. She writes about architecture, design, food, and travel for a variety of publications. She lives in Rome.
