FAST AND SLOW

Allyson Felix

Before time stood completely still for her, Allyson Felix was one of the fastest women in histo- ry, with ten Olympic medals to her name. The sudden stop came in 2018, when she was diag- nosed with severe pre-eclampsia and delivered her daughter, Camryn, prematurely at 32 weeks.
Allyson had previously planned out her lifein synch with her sponsor, Nikeaccording to the rigid training and competition schedule that was expected of all top female runners, whether or not they planned to have children. Once Camryn was out of the NICU and in good health, Allyson was ready to travel again. She went up to Oregon and met with Nike to dis- cuss a new contract. Despite their outward messages of female empowerment, she faced an extreme example of "The Motherhood Penalty"a 70% reduction in salary. The story that ensued, and Allyson's brave campaign to create change within Nike, reverberat- ed throughout the world of sports and the country at large, paving the way for the real trans- formation that she still fights for. Yet, until now, Allyson has never shared her full truth. In Fast and Slow, she will finally reveal the road she took to becoming a champion, both on and off the track. Her memoir will showcase what it means to sprint toward a lofty goal, moving through the four phasesStart, Accelerate, Drive, Deceleratebut also how to slow down, savor each phase, and make a meaningful impact along the way. There's a champion within each of us. By telling her own story and sharing the strategies that worked for her, Fast and Slow will show readers the path to high achievement without total sacrifice. Allyson Felix is the most decorated female track and field athlete in Olympic history. She served in the Obama administration as a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. Her diagnosis and experience with pre-eclampsia has been highlighted by the CDC to educate Americans on the subject of maternal health as part of the HearHer program. In 2019, having left Nike, she founded her own sportswear company, Saysh, with her brother and manager Wes Felix.
