How would two girls, whose characters and aspirations are totally different from each other, diverge in their life paths? Ever since their parents died, they have been depending on each other. The first major goal of the older sister is to become a concubine of a landlord, but how would she possibly achieve this goal with the landlord’s wife guarding against her and her daughter obstructing? Whereas the younger sister is willing to follow her own heart: when she falls in love with a boy, she marries him; when her husband enlists, she waits; when he comes back as an official of the Kuomintang, she cherishes with him. However, the liberation is a huge blow to the two sisters: landlords are oppressed, and the Kuomintang official becomes an anti-revolutionist. How would these two sisters face with their new dilemmas?
