FOR GOODNESS SEX will be an invaluable resource for parents of young adults, based on the article about sex educator Vernacchio in the New York Times magazine, promoting sex as a healthy and natural extension of our value system, and cautioning that teens can only make smart decisions on sex if given the right vocabulary to talk about it with each other.

Al’s classes provide kids with the information they need to make good choices about sex during their most formative adolescent years. Without this information they come under the influence of the same mainstream messages: boys must be studs; girls can’t enjoy sex the way boys can; porn is real sex; hookups are better than relationships. Vernacchio offers the reassurance that sex is a healthy and good thing, that teenagers can make smart decisions about their sexual activity if given the right information, and that parents can benefit as well from learning to talk about a subject that leaves people of all ages tongue-tied too often, creating walls between parent and child.
Vernacchio teaches sex education at Friends' Central School in Wynnewood, PA where he is also the chair of the English department. A Human Sexuality educator and consultant for over 20 years, Al has taught graduate-level courses in Human Sexuality and HIV/AIDS, designed and facilitated sexuality-themed workshops, and presented at TEDTalks.
