HOOD

Jenny Elder Moke

Isabelle has grown up in a convent with her mother, Lady Marien, sheltered from the world and kept in the dark about her father's identity – although she is a good shot with a bow and arrow. When Marien is captured by The Wolf, King John's ruthless right hand, Isabelle escapes and is sent on a quest to retrieve Robin Hood. She joins the Merry Men without telling them her secret, trekking across the forests of England and gaining their acceptance despite her sheltered life with her skill as a shot. Once Robin is found, however, Isabelle's secret threatens to ruin her new friendships - and a possible new romance - while Marien's life is put in even more danger.

This story is a reimagining of the story of Robin Hood, the rebel outlaw of English myth, but with a focus on his daughter's quest to save her mother from the gallows.

An exciting read from beginning to end - the quick pace, daring rescues, and, of course, plenty of archery will keep the pages turning. --Kirkus Reviews

A Fall 2020 Junior Library Guild Selection

A twisty, fast-paced adventure that will be an excellent addition to every collection, but especially where mythology, legend, and historical fiction are in demand. --School Library Journal, Starred Review

Elder] Moke does the Robin Hood tale justice, imbuing the legend with historical accuracy -- and a good dosage of the classic, jovial shenanigans of the Merry Men. --Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
