HOW TO GROW A DINOSAUR

Jill Esbaum Mike Boldt

Good news: Your mom's hatching a baby! Bad news: Babies take their sweet time. And when the baby finally hatches? He's too little to play! He mostly screeches, eats, burps, sleeps, and poops. He doesn't even know he's a dinosaur! That's where you come in. You can teach the baby just about everything--from peek-a-boo to roaring to table manners to bedtime. Growing a dinosaur is a big job, but you're perfect for it. Why? Because one thing your baby brother wants more than anything . . . is to be just like you.
With silly kid-humor and sincere, moving moments, this new-sibling book is a perfect combination of funny, reassuring, and truly useful. It captures the excitement and joy of getting to guide a little brother or sister through life, and uses big laughs, great surprises, and gentle lessons to empower kids in how to be a great sibling and role-model to littler ones. Great for family reading and reading aloud.

Think new baby meets dinosaurs: By cleverly using dinosaur characters and details to introduce kids to the experience of becoming a big sibling, Jill Esbaum has found the perfect combination of funny, reassuring, and truly useful.

Mike Boldt has arrived: Of I Don't Want to Be a Frog fame, Mike has a knack for bold, silly kid-humor and sincere, moving moments. His wacky dinosaurs and delightful details will make kids and their adults pick this book up over and over--baby on the way or not.

Perfectly empowering for a big-sibling-to-be: This story is hilarious, using big laughs, great surprises, and gentle lessons to guide kids in how to be a great sibling and role-model to littler ones.

A new-baby book you can feel good about giving: So many new-sibling books focus on jealousy or anxiety. This is the antidote--all about the excitement and joy of getting to expertly guide a baby sibling through life.

Jill Esbaum reads everything--books, magazines, the backs of cereal boxes, you name it. She's a full-time, award-winning writer and the author of I Am Cow Hear Me Moo!, Stanza, Tom's Tweet, and many others. Jill and her husband live on a farm in Dixon, Iowa, where green walls of corn surround their yard each summer and she gets to drive a huge tractor each autumn harvest under a blue, blue sky.

Mike Boldt is an author and illustrator living in the countryside of Alberta, Canada. He has been illustrating for children for the past fifteen years, including the picture books I Don't Want to Be a Frog and I Don't Want to Be Big. When he's not drawing, he's building snow forts and Lego spaceships with his three kids, or sharing laughs and his ice cream with his wife. He is very glad he's not a frog.

[A] funny and sweet take on bringing a new addition into a family... allowing for maximum comic effect.

Esbaum and Boldt [hit] the serious, the horrific, and the hysterical - and tenderly portrays the growing bond between the two children.

Fresh... Adorable... Funny.

Wonderfully succinct . . . A delightfully funny, tender book on being a big sibling.

A big hit . . . and I can see why. . . . I wish it was around when my oldest was getting ready to become a big sister.

One of the cutest new sibling picture books I've read.
