HOW TO MEASURE THE OCEAN
A dynamic picture book that blends nature, maths and wonder, inspired by a child's curiosity about infinite possibilities and by the beauty of numbers - alongside the creator's life-long love affair with the ocean.
How DO you measure something as vast and dynamic as the ocean? A lyrical exploration of the beauty of maths and the wonders of the ocean, sparking curiosity while introducing early maths concepts along the way.
The ocean can be difficult to measure.
You can't lift it onto scales to see how heavy it is.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
You can work most things out,
once you know what you're measuring.
A joyful ode to the ocean explored through an innovative blend of science, maths and creativity, perfect for stimulating young minds.
Inda Ahmad Zahri seems to always have a toe in one world and a pinkie in another. She trained as a surgical doctor, but now spends much of her time writing and illustrating stories for children. Originally from Kuala Lumpur, she now splits her time between her garden home in Meanjin/Brisbane and a sandy spot in the Middle East. Across her many worlds, however, is her enduring love of books, the ocean and Malaysian rice dishes. Inda is the author of several picture books including CBCA Notable Salih and Speech Pathology Award short-listed Night Lights. She is the author and illustrator of The Month that Makes the Year and How to Measure the Ocean. www.indabinda.com
