"I have never given up a single dream."

Lutz Hagestedt

Edited by Lutz Hagestedt In Memoriam of Ernst Augustin

"My imagination is capable of anything." Ernst Augustin (1927-2019) was and is a stroke of luck for German literature. With his originality, wit, depth and lightness, astute observations, and knowledge of human nature, broad experience, and worldly wisdom, his oeuvre is something rare and special in German literature; its inventiveness and the suppleness of its language are beyond compare. Ernst Augustin's books are enormously entertaining, and at the same time we travel with them through time and space, through consciousness and unconsciousness; the world becomes a different one, and it becomes recognizable as something different.

The volume "I have not given up a single dream," edited by Lutz Hagestedt, an expert in Augustin's oeuvre and a long-standing friend, brings together texts by Augustin, excerpts from his oeuvre, speeches and interviews, and articles about him, laudatory speeches and articles, portraits, essays, and reports, but also the eulogies and obituaries that were written after his death. It thus paints a picture of a very unique oeuvre and an enchanting, lovable, generous, unforgettable author and human being.

Lutz Hagestedt (ed.), born in 1960, is a literary studies scholar and has taught at the University of Rostock since 2004, where Ernst Augustin studied medicine.
