IN A JAR

Deborah Marcero

Don't you wish you could share everything with a friend, even when they're not with you? That's what can happen in our new picture book IN A JAR by Deborah Marcero.
Llewellyn, a little rabbit, is a collector. He gathers things in jars - ordinary things like buttercups, feathers, and heart-shaped stones. Then he meets another rabbit, Evelyn, and together they begin to collect extraordinary things - like rainbows, the sound of the ocean, and the wind just before snow falls. And, best of all, when they hold the jars and peer inside, they remember all the wonderful things they've seen and done. But one day, Evelyn has sad news: Her family is moving away. How can the two friends continue their magical collection - and their special friendship - from afar?

Here's a marvelous picture book, charmingly written and beautifully illustrated, about the power of memory and the magic of friendship.

Key selling points:
STUNNING ARTWORK AND PACKAGE: Deborah Marcero's artwork is truly remarkable; each page is more magnificent than the last. A cover that leaps off the shelf and a separate case complete this special package.

PAGES TO PORE OVER: Kids will love examining every jar in the bunnies' collection, each one filled with a very special memory.

WILL SPARK DISCUSSIONS ABOUT FRIENDS WHO MOVE AWAY: When Evelyn leaves, Llewellyn's heart feels like an empty jar. But then they find a clever and inspiring way to share their new experiences and keep in touch.

PERFECT FOR SEASONAL PROMOTION: Nothing says spring like bunnies! Though the bunnies' incredible collection spans all four seasons, the striking cover with its field of flowers is ideal for spring placement.

Deborah Marcero is the author and illustrator of My Heart Is a Compass, which Kirkus Reviews called "lovely, lively, and enchanting," in a starred review, and the illustrator of Twinderella by Corey Rosen Schwartz. In a Jar does what all the best picture books do: It captivates, entertains and leaves you with a reminder of magic still shimmering around the edges.

Marcero (Rosie and Crayon) provides a metaphor for the importance of capturing fleeting moments, and an image of a friendship that overcomes separation.

IN A JAR is a #1 Indie Bestseller Kirkus Best Children's Books of 2020 BookPage Best of 2020

Marcero works magic with prismatic watercolors, ink, and pencil, as her light-filled illustrations chronicle the young rabbits' exploits and their appreciative wonder of the world around them... This joyful account of friendship will charm readers with the notion of capturing wind or a rainbow in a jar, but its deeper message of maintaining relationships over a distance will comfort those who have moved or know someone who has.

An enchanting examination of the pleasure reaped from cultivating imagination, friendship, and memory.

In the art, Marcero builds a visual vocabulary for the meaning and importance of memories. As Evelyn opens a jar and stars from Llewelyn's night sky swirl and fall around her, readers will feel the warmth of friendship and the wonder of the world as well. Stunning.
