Ismael’s story

FRANCESCO D'ADAMO

Author of many successful books among which Storia di Iqbal (Premio Cento) and Storia di Ismael che ha attraversato il mare, Francesco D'Adamo likes to tell stories on the difficult world in which we live to teenagers whom he calls "the adults who temporarily have 13/14 years". His books are highly appreciated in schools and have been translated all over the world.

Ismael and his father are fishermen along the north African coast but when his father mysteriously disappears at sea, the young boy decides to embark on a journey towards the so yearned Italy in search of fortune. His voyage, though, soon turns into a nightmare: crammed in a boat together  with other destitute people, he is shipwrecked and lives a terrible night which scars him bodily and mentally. Luckily, he is miraculously saved and taken to a shelter for people in need, where he will start to see his future and rediscover the importance of his origins.
