LA SEÑORA POTTER NO ES EXACTAMENTE SANTA CLAUS
"My favorite book of this year. I laughed, I cried, I was dazzled. Total favorite."
Mariana Enriquez
The fame of the unpleasant Kimberly Clark Weymouth, a small town eternally plagued by icy blizzards and lots of snow, and where Louise Feldman set the children's classic Mrs. Potter is not exactly Santa Claus, allowed Randal Peltzer to open a successful souvenir shop. Every day, the city receives readers of the eccentric writer and, reluctantly, lives off of her. But what would happen if, fed up with a destiny he did not choose, Randal's son Billy decided to close the store to move to another city? Could Kimberly Clark Weymouth allow itself to stop being the place it has always been and become something else?
Beneath the exuberant prose and limitless imagination of Laura Fernández, hides a solid story about motherhood, creation and renunciation, art as a refuge and the loneliness of the misunderstood, in this cross between a Roald Dahl novel for adults and a crazy and digressive TC Boyle who would have read too much Joy Williams. Mrs. Potter is not exactly Santa Claus. She intends to blow up the very idea of the existence of the story, or the unique story of what we are, because if we are something, it is an infinite number of possibilities.
Laura Fernández (1981) is the author of six novels: Bienvenidos a Welcome (Ellipsis, 2008), Wendolin Kramer (Seix Barral, 2011), La Chica Zombie (Seix Barral, 2013), El Show de Grossman (Aristas Martínez, 2013), Connerland (Random House Literature, 2017) and Mrs. Potter is not exactly Santa Claus (Random House Literature, 2021), winner of the 2021 El Ojo Crítico de Narrativa award. She is also a journalist and literary and music critic. She has two children and a ton of Philip K. Dick books.
