Ammi-Joan Paquette spent her formative years moving from place to place, which left her with an insatiable curiosity about the wide world and everything in it. A voracious reader since early childhood, she's thrilled to now be able to share her stories with readers everywhere. She lives outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where she balances her own writing and her day job as a literary agent. Sabrena Khadija is a Sierra Leonean-American illustrator based in Washington, D.C. She has done editorial work for several clients, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Google, NYLON, and Society6. This is her third illustrated children's book following Ride, Roll, Run and Bing, Bop, Bam.

This empowering and uplifting board book recognizes the potential and possibility of the hands of each child. One to two sentences per spread describe all of the amazing things that hands are capable of, such as, "mix, and roll, and fix," a delicious meal, or "fill.spill.scoop and press and shape and build," an impressive sandcastle, while "Joining hands can make us brave." A well-paced, straightforward text will appeal to even the youngest of children, as onlookers will relate not only to the familiar scenes of hands at work, but also the importance of offering a hand, or help, to a friend in need. The bright and colorful illustrations are particularly notable in their celebration of diversity and acceptance. Eye-catching spreads depict children of various skin tones and include characters who are blind, deaf, or use prosthetics. The first in a planned trilogy, this encouraging title is a warm and welcome addition to all board book collections.
