MY MUM IS A BIRD

Angie Cui Evie Barrow

A delightfully absurd and touching story about celebrating the unique qualities that make us different.
Today is Parents' and Carers' Day at school. I don't want to bring anyone, but my mum is coming anyway. She is a bird. My Mum is a Bird by Angie Cui is about a child who must bring her mother an actual human-sized bird to the class morning tea. Her mum is so embarrassing. She sings songs, brings a plate of seeds and insists on eating in a tree. But, when a classmate gets a spider in her hair, whose mum will swoop in to save the day? My Mum is a Bird is a funny, relatable story about loving your family no matter how weird they are. Angie Cui, originally from China, embarked on her Australian journey at eighteen. She lives in Melbourne with her husband and two children, whom she calls the 'ABC Family' a fusion of four individuals and three cultures. Imbued with a profound appreciation for the linguistic richness within her family, Angie finds delight in weaving tales through various languages. Her aspiration is to craft narratives that resonate with children, enabling them to envision themselves within the stories they read. Evie Barrow is a character-driven artist and illustrator specialising in picture books. She lives and works on Woi Wurrung Country in Naarm/Melbourne where rattling trams are a soundtrack to her days.
