Heinrich August Winkler is the author of two of the most successful history books in the last ten years. These were ‘The Long Route to the West’ (‘Der lange Weg nach Westen’) and ‘The History of the West’ (‘Geschichte des Westens’). He has long been known to the wider public for his compelling explanations of historical connections. This Berlin historian, very much the public-facing intellectual, is always ready to engage with controversy, throwing himself into political debate about the nation’s home and foreign policy, even having a practical impact on the course of history. This publication gathers together a collection of his most significant political interventions of the last ten years or so.
