NONE OF THE ABOVE

I.W. Gregorio

Mean Girls meets Middlesex in this thought-provoking story that explores what it means to be a man, a woman, or something in between.
Kristin Lattimer is a champion hurdler with a full scholarship to the college of her dreams, and is about to go all the way with her sweet and charming boyfriend. Like lots of girls, Kristin doesn't exactly have the time of her life when she loses her virginity. Unlike most girls, she finds out at her first Ob-Gyn visit that it's because she's intersex. Outwardly, Kristin looks like a woman, but she has no uterus. Instead of ovaries, she was born with testicles – and a Y-chromosome. Depressed and desperate, Kristin confides in her best friend Vanessa, only to have her diagnosis leaked to the school. As her world completely unravels around her, Kristin has to determine how to thread together her new reality.

Ilene Wong is a practicing urologist and this book was inspired by an experience she had with a young patient.

provocative and enlightening first novel...Kristin's harrowing quest to come to terms with the insensitivity of strangers and acquaintances will strike a familiar chord with any reader who has felt estranged.

I was touched by None ofthe Above. It had me teary-eyed quite a bit. Itrust it will open the minds and hearts of readers and create a kinder climate for all young people with differences.

Like the beloved physician she is, I.W. Gregorio brings rare knowledge and acute empathy to the illumination of an anatomical difference—and to the teens who discover, in the nick of time, the saving grace of knowing and being one’s truest self. A book unlike any other.

Noble, daring and necessary - IW Gregorio's groundbreaking debut is a bittersweet, painful and ultimately life-affirming voyage of identity.

What a lovely and terrific book. Gregorio tackles so many thorny aspects of this issue with so much grace and aplomb. My hat is off.

NONE OF THE ABOVE made it on Huffington Post’s Most Anticipated YA’s of 2015 list: This debut focuses on a teenager girl who discovers she's intersex. ...engaging...smart...This book serves as a useful introduction to the discussion around intersexuality, particularly from a youth viewpoint.

None of the Above is a sensitive, beautifully written story, told with heart (break) and humor. Gregorio deftly explores the isolation of being ‘other’ in a highly relatable way. Bravo!

Discussions of Kristin's gender strike an equally appropriate balance: Kristin worries that her diagnosis means she's "not exactly a girl," and Sam rejects her as a "faggot," but other voices express kinder views. Sensitive, informative and a valuable resource for teens in Kristin's shoes.

NONE OF THE ABOVE by I.W. Gregorio has been optioned by Lifetime for film rights.

I couldn't put this book down - I really wanted Kristin to be okay and it made me want every intersex person in the world to be able to walk through it safely. This book opened my mind in ways that few books have done before. Kudos to I.W. Gregorio for writing it, for opening doors and breaking silences. If the numbers are right -- that 1.4 percent of our population is intersected, this book is for all of us, for our neighbors and families and friends -- My hope is that one day, no one will have to explain. None of The Above is the beginning of the road to that One Day.
