OUR IATALIAN CHRISTMAS EVE

Danielle Sedita Luciano Lozano Francesco Sedita

A Christmas Feast - Italian style - as two young siblings celebrate with their family and start a new tradition.
Family! Presents! And most importantly... FOOD!

Andiamo! It's Christmas Eve for one big Italian family and time for all their favorite traditions. Little Francesco and Danielle are excited for the festivities: the Feast of the Seven Fishes, chatty aunties competing to see who's the best cook, stacks of presents, an accordion sing-along, and too many cousins to count. But what happens when someone forgets the dessert? The siblings must find a way to save Christmas and put their own stamp on the holiday (and eat to their hearts' content)!

Danielle Sedita and Francesco Sedita were both born in Manhattan's Little Italy and then moved with their parents to New Jersey. They have enjoyed years together in the kitchen with their family and are often on the phone with each other discussing their latest favorite recipes. Danielle still lives in New Jersey, and Francesco in Manhattan. This is their first book together. To learn more about Francesco and his other books, visit FrancescoSedita.com.

Bright illustrations sketched with care accompany the text nicely in this fun take on a traditional Italian Christmas Eve... An excellent addition to any elementary library, this would also pair well with a classroom lesson on holiday cultures around the world.

...Lozano's digital scenes are full of holiday bustle, aunties cooking in high heels, and eye-catching textures and patterns - feathery evergreen branches, the design on the red tablecloth, the shape of stiff spaghetti before it sinks into a pot of water... foodies will enjoy this entertaining expansion to the holiday shelf.

A busy evening of Christmas music, naps, and mouthwatering baked goods unfolds before Babe ushers everyone on to attend midnight Mass. The authors sustain a warm, bubbly tone, a mood matched by Lozano's scribbly depictions of a loving family exhibiting countless distinct and often-humorous facial expressions.
