PERFECTLY PARVIN
Fourteen-year-old Iranian-American Parvin Mohammadi sets out to win the ultimate date to homecoming in this heartfelt and outright funny debut.
Perfectly Parvin is perfectly adorable. She's a fourteen-year-old Iranian-American girl after one thing: a date to the homecoming dance. After just being dumped by her summer boyfriend on the same day she is introduced to his new girlfriend, Parvin knows she can't show up to homecoming unattached. After meeting Matty Fumero who is HOT!, she approaches her goal (Matty) with a single-minded focus, except there are distractions. For instance, freshman year of high school, band class where she finds herself playing the bassoon, an instrument she's never heard of and that is wholly embarrassing; and then there's her love of Cheetos, Farsi class, her ongoing fight with ingrown hairs and her general Iranian-ness.
Parvin thinks if she could just be less of who she is, she would have an easier time and Matty Fumero would instantly fall for her. So taking a page from the women in rom-coms who always get the guy, Parvin decides to change everything about herself. But when her aunt who is detained and deported after the Muslim ban goes into effect, being herself and being Iranian has never been more important to Parvin.
Perfectly Parvin is a fun, voice-driven read perfect for fans of Jenny Han. Parvin will definitely bring a smile to your face.
