PLEASE DON'T SIT ON MY BED IN YOUR OUTSIDE CLOTHES

Phoebe Robinson

Essays

New York Times bestselling author and star of 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson, returns to the literary scene with a new collection of essays about life in quarantine, amid the COVID-19 pandemic that touches on everything from the personal (her evolving relationship with her boyfriend known to her fans as "British Baekoff"), to the global (the damaging narratives of Black exceptionalism and the quiet strength of introverts) and dismantles the stereotypes we hold about ourselves and others.
PLEASE DON'T SIT ON MY BED IN YOUR OUTSIDE CLOTHES, the newest essay collection from bestselling author Phoebe Robison, was written in a special moment--in the time of quarantine as a pandemic swept across the nation, forcing people into their homes, studios, and tiny apartments in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. As Americans took to their homes, faced with a new sense of normal, they began taking up hobbies like baking bread, building puzzles, and knitting to fill the days, and Phoebe was no different. Except instead of baking bread, Phoebe was writing. Inspired by current events, never-ending news cycles, and the cultural moment we were all experiencing together, Phoebe has written her best collection yet, which is at once relatable, charming, smart, and utterly entertaining.

In essays that are by turns hilarious and heartfelt, written with Phoebe's unforgettable voice and unparalleled wit, she crafts an acceptance speech for 2020, a year that will go down in the books as one of the worst years ever, and shares her thoughts on her relationship and their blissfully childless union; she ruminates on Black excellence, highlighting the fact that Black people don't need white saviorism but true allyship; she illuminates her readers on the comedy industry, an industry that deals in laughs but is notorious for protecting predators; and wonders, just how much news is too much news. Covering a range of topics sure to engage with a wide readership, PLEASE DON'T SIT ON MY BED IN YOUR OUTSIDE CLOTHES is a brilliant collection not only for the time, but for years to come.

Phoebe's the G.O.A.T when it comes to honest and hilarious storytelling, and Please Don't Sit on my Bed in Your Outside Clothes is no exception. Her writing is a masterclass in transforming life's most complicated parts into relatable gems. Righteous, ratchet, sincere, and downright entertaining, I couldn't put Please Don't Sit on my Bed down.

Phoebe Robinson has done it again! While exploring topics ranging from being the boss to helping me determine which wigs are my zoom standbys, Pheebs keeps the comic relief coming. I've never looked forward to reading footnotes so much. Come for the laughs, stay for her vulnerability. You just might find yourself walking away lighter and braver.

She did it again! Whip-smart, laugh-out-loud, and unabashedly honest, this collection feels like a long awaited weekend with an old friend. Phoebe brings you in with her hilarity, and keeps you with her unparalleled social commentary. After the past year, I needed this!

Phoebe Robinson continues to be one of the most interesting, thoughtful and hilarious writers of our generation. She's so relatable and captivating and especially gifted at illustrating the ridiculous side of humanity comically while striking you right through your heart without you realizing it. Frankly, How dare she be this gifted and cool and hot? It's disrespectful. F*ck her. I hate Phoebe Robinson.

"A funny, heartfelt, joyful third book" and "a satisfying, hilarious tapestry."

Strikes the perfect balance of brutally honest and laugh out loud funny. I didn't want it to end.
