POP

Gordon Korman

Marcus Jordan dreams of making his name on the DNA Raiders, the storied football team at his new high school. To his dismay, his first friend in town turns out to be a strange man in his fifties, who speaks in non-sequiturs, acts like a class clown, and plays football like a superstar. To Marcus's amazement, his new buddy is none other than the King of Pop - Charlie Popovich, a retired NFL linebacker. But Marcus's delight soon turns to dread as he realizes Charlie has a dark side. Dozens of concussions sustained on the playing field have taken their toll on Charlie's brain. And the reason this retiree is so comfortable hanging out with a teenager is that, much of the time, he thinks he's a teenager too.
