POSITIVE

Ali Benjamin Paige Rawl

From the outside Paige Rawl looked like a normal teenager. But Paige had a secret: she was born with HIV.
In sixth grade she told one friend about her illness and within weeks, her entire Indiana school had turned against her. After years of struggle, she swallowed 15 sleeping pills — one for each year of her life. That could have been the end of her story. Instead, it was only the beginning.

POSITIVE is the story of how she transformed herself from a bullied middle school student to a national youth advocate, anti- bullying crusader, and HIV/AIDS educator whose testimony helped overhaul Indiana’s bullying laws.

Paige has been featured in multiple national media outlets (USA Today, Glamour UK, People Magazine, Nick News with Linda Elerbee and Poz Magazine) and was one of five finalists featured in Seventeen's "Pretty Amazing" cover girl contest. She is a regular speaker with the national SPEAK OUT tour, as well as the Indianapolis-based “I Need You to Listen, Hear and Understand Me” tour.

Rawl’s journey from secrecy to acceptance thanks to her friends and family makes for a compelling memoir. Rawl and Benjamin deftly capture the mindset of middle schooler Paige with anecdotes that reveal the teen’s innocence and naïveté, tracking her progress toward adulthood. They tackle tough subjects such as suicide delicately but honestly. Readers will come away feeling inspired by Rawl’s work as an HIV/AIDS speaker and anti-bullying advocate.
