RAISING HUMAN BEINGS

Ross W. Greene

Creating a Collaborative Partnership with Your Child

From renowned child development expert and author of the bestselling classics The Explosive Child and Lost at School comes a detailed and practical guide for enhancing parent-child communication, dealing with problems in a non-punitive way, improving relationships, and preparing kids to be happy, functional members of society.
The most crucial task of any parent is to help their child pursue a fulfilling life. But evolving social pressures and shifting parenting models have muddied our understanding of how to raise our kids. We want to exercise authority, but not be too rigid. We want kids to be independent, but not if they’re going to make bad choices. We want to be nurturing, but still prepare our children for the harsh realities of life. But good parenting isn't about striking the right balance. It's about being responsive to the needs, skills, desires and goals of your child.

In Raising Human Beings, renowned child development expert and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Ross Greene explains how to cultivate a better parent-child relationship while also nurturing empathy, honesty, resilience, and independence. Through collaborative problem solving, parents can forgo time-out and sticker charts, open up communication, and allow their kids to feel heard and validated. From homework to hygiene, curfews, to screen time, this essential guide arms parents with the tools they need to raise happy children who will eventually become empathetic, curious, fulfilled adults.
