REIMAGINING INDIA
Adil Zainulbhai Clay Chandler McKinsey & Co
Unlocking the Potential of Asia's Next Superpower
From the world's premier management consultancy McKinsey & Company, a comprehensive collection of essays by the brightest experts on what the new global elite needs to know about modern India.
India—vibrant, chaotic, and tumultuous—remains one of the most important and least understood nations on earth. Its rising economy and burgeoning middle class have earned India a place alongside China as one of the world’s two indispensable emerging markets. India’s tech-savvy entrepreneurs and rapidly globalizing firms are transforming the competitive landscape of the world economy. Yet the country’s prospects are uncertain. Will poverty, corruption, political paralysis, and inadequate infrastructure thwart India’s continued rise? What is India’s true potential? And what can be done to unlock it?
Reimagining India, commissioned and edited by McKinsey & Company, the world’s premier management consulting firm, brings together an unprecedented collection of writers and thinkers to address those crucial questions. This unique volume features essays from an all-star cast of contributors, including: CNN world affairs host Fareed Zakaria; leading Indian CEOs such as Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Anand Mahindra, and Sunil Bharti Mittal; Microsoft founder Bill Gates; Coca Cola Company CEO Muhtar Kent; Google chairman Eric Schmidt; Harvard Business School dean Nitin Nohria; award-winning authors Suketu Mehta (Maximum City), Edward Luce (In Spite of the Gods), and Patrick French (India: A Portrait); Infosys cofounder Nandan Nilekani, the government minister responsible for creating digital identities for 1.2 billion Indians; and a host of high-profile artists, educators, entrepreneurs, foreign policy analysts, historians, journalists, investors, and other luminaries. India has a dramatic opportunity to show the rest of the developing world how open, democratic societies can achieve high growth and shared prosperity. The thought-provoking strategies and surprising insights in Reimagining India provide a roadmap to that future, and are a critical resource for all readers seeking to understand how India is changing—and changing the world.
