REINVENTING THE LEADER

Guilherme Loureiro Carlos E Marin Marshall Goldsmith

How to Change Yourself to Change Your Company

An inspiring, practical book by the CEO overseeing Walmex, Walmart Canada, and Walmart Chile, and his executive leadership coach that shows how even the most successful leaders must be open to personal change in order to transform their company.
In the midst of a successful year, visionary CEO Gui Loureiro decided that Walmex, Walmart's biggest division outside of the United States, needed to make massive changes to make the iconic company a more data-driven, customer-centric business that would be competitive in our digital economy. The stakes were high: no company the size of Walmex had ever attempted a transformation at such a magnitude of scale. The book tells the turbulent story of how it happened and why it is especially relevant in this age of globalization. Gui learns from Carlos that to change the company he must first transform his own leadership style. Written from the dual perspectives, this candid book provides an insightful blueprint for any organization's success. Today's leaders are expected to inspire by sharing a vision based on purpose, not just profits. Loureiro and Marin's enlightening account of self-discovery and business reinvention defines a fresh new approach to leadership for the future. Guilherme Loureiro is the Regional CEO of WalMart for Canada, Central America, Chile and Mexico, and the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of WalMex. He leads an operation with a presence in eight countries: Canada, Chile Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Guilherme has a degree in Business Administration from the Fundação Getulio Vargas University in São Paulo, where he also did his master and PHD degrees. He completed the General Management Program (TGMP), among other grades such as Management of Executive Boards at Harvard Business School, thus strengthening his leadership skills. Carlos Marin is a highly regarded Executive Leadership Coach. He specializes in helping executive leaders achieve and verify positive changes in their leadership behavior. His work has benefited executives in a wide range of industries including Aerospace, Banking and Financial Services, Biotechnology, Communications, Consumer Products, Hospitality and Entertainment, Manufacturing, Management Consulting, Pharmaceutical, Technology and Utilities. Carlos has a BS in Psychology from Olivet College and Master's degrees in Educational Psychology and Counseling from Michigan State University. Carlos and his wife Martha live in San Diego, California.

Reinventing the Leader is built on the rich experiences and remarkable introspections from two exceptional global business and thought leaders . . . It provides unique insights on how to lead change by transforming yourself to better serve all your stakeholders. It is truly one of the most inspiring leadership books I have read over the last 10 years.

Reinventing the Leader is an inspiring account of the magic that can happen when a leader realizes they must undergo their own transformation in order to transform their organization. Entertaining and relevant, the book includes personal insights from both authors while showing the pivotal role that trust plays in the leader/coach relationship. Gui and Carlos have written an honest, vulnerable, and praiseworthy book that should be in the library of every leader and coach.

You'll find no business jargon or easy aha moments in this remarkable book. Rather, it offers the at-times painfully honest story of a highly visible CEO with sufficient humility to realize that he needed to change before he could transform his company . . . Written with welcome clarity, this business narrative grabs you from the first page. Highly recommended for leaders and for coaches.

Reinventing the Leader is among the most compelling business leadership books I've read in a long time. It's exceedingly rare when both the dynamic CEO of a huge, iconic retail business and his seasoned executive coach tell allin their own unvarnished words, and in the words of executives around themabout the dreams and fears they shared before, during, and after a major transformation of the business.

In his account of the digital transformation of Walmart Mexico and Central America (Walmex), Gui Loureiro has provided a textbook on leading through change. He not only reinvented the business while also delivering results, but he also reinvented himself as a new kind of leader . . . You won't finish this book without sharing my enormous respect for what he accomplishedand how.

Reinventing the Leader is a master class in leader growth and learning. It's a unique, behind-the-scenes look into one leader's efforts to transform a business and a coach's reflections on leader reinvention . . . In the process, we see how changing organizations also means changing oneself.
