RITOS DE PRIMAVERA

Carmen Romero Lorenzo

Carmen is a high-quality fantasy debut author, with a novel that reclaims the LGBTQ representation in the genre and going back to the natual roots and pagan rites.
Delia is the daughter of a war hero and a woman who betrayed her people for love. She has grown up between secrets and half-truths about her family history. Following the death of her mother, she meets Enara, the priestess of an ancient, outlawed religion, who offers her the chance to become her apprentice and embark on a journey to resurrect the lost magic of her people. But does she have the right to pursue this journey when her parents swore to destroy magic and the women who practiced it? To achieve their goal, Delia and Enara will have to make a pilgrimage through each of the northern regions and renew the goddess' pact with the earth before the end of spring. However, they will not be able to do it alone. The rite requires the participation of the wise women of each region, practically extinct after the war, or living outside their art. During her journey, Delia will unravel the truth about her origins and the woman her mother was, as well as establishing various alliances and feuds whose roots go deeper than she could have ever imagined. Carmen Romero Lorenzo (Sevilla, 1993) studied a Double Degree in Humanities and Translation and Interpreting in Seville and spent a year in Dublin. She currently combines writing with literary translation. She has published stories in several anthologies, including Alucinadas III and V (Palabaristas, 2017 and 2019) and Ira de Dioses (Pulpture, 2018). She was also a finalist for the Domingo Santos Prize in 2017. Her work is not limited to narrative, she is also co-author of the drama Clitmenestra encadenada for the company Furor Bacchicus, in which she also performed for several years, and has participated in the collection of essays Infiltradas (Palabaristas, 2019). Her academic and artistic background makes her choose a literature rooted in mythology and classical culture, but also in social struggles and humanist speculation. In 2023 she published her debut fantasy novel: Ritos de primavera (Umbriel, 2023).
