Silk Route, Adventure Asia

Fairy tales from Arabian Nights, the allure of the big cities, oriental mazes of crooked lanes and the lonesome expanses of the deserts: the Silk Route adventure. Trade relations between the Roman Empire in the west and the Middle Kingdom in East Asia already existed in Antiquity, and goods were transported along a network of routes. At the time, silk was the most important of all the commodities traded over long distances, and it was also the most valuable and most coveted. This is why the German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen chose the name for the oldest and most famous »highway«.
