STRONGER

Jeff Bauman Bret Witter

Fighting Back After the Boston Marathon Bombing

Jeff Bauman waited for his Girlfriend at the finishing line of the Boston Marathon 2013, an unattended black bagpack standing right beside him on the ground. Minutes later the picture of Jeff holding his severed legs went around the world. STRONGER is about the day that changed his life, the manhunt that followed and the amazing way the young man held on to his life and believes.
Jeff Bauman woke up on Tuesday, April 16th 2013 and he had no legs. He could barely hear a thing and he remembered why. Just thirty hours prior, Jeff was surrounded by revelry at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The first bomb went off at his feet as he awaited his girlfriend’s finish. When Jeff awoke days later from hours of surgery, rather than take stock of his now completely altered life, Jeff ripped out his breathing tube and tried to speak. He couldn’t. Jeff asked for a pad and paper and he wrote down seven words, “Saw the guy. Looked right at me.” So set off one of the biggest manhunts in the country’s history and began Jeff’s road to recovery. In his memoir, STRONGER, Jeff will be working with six time New York Times bestselling co-writer Bret Witter (Dewey, Until I Say Goodbye, Until Tuesday) to inspire millions by writing about his experiences that early spring day and his ongoing mission to walk again. Jeff will show the terrorists that they accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and prove to the entire world what Boston Strong really means.

Filled with raw emotion, humanity and humor, Stronger is the inspirational real-life story of the man who became the living embodiment of “Boston Strong.”

The films that are telling the truth about disability - During the last two weeks, the London film festival, which closes this evening, has prominently included some very interesting films featuring disability. Two films gaining much attention are Stronger, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bauman, who became a double amputee after the Boston marathon bombings in 2013, and Breathe, with Andrew Garfield as Robin Cavendish who became paralysed by polio from the neck down in 1958 and, against all odds, became a disability advocate.
