SWITCHED AT BIRTHDAY
A modern-day mix of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, SWITCHED AT BIRTHDAY is the story of two very different teenagers who wake up one morning to find they have switched bodies.
Even though Alexa Martin and Lavender Schmitz share the same birthday, they couldn't be more different. Alexa is tall, pretty, athletic, and a member of the most popular clique in school - in other words, perfect. At least that's what Lavender thinks and it drives her crazy. She is smart but awkward, and has only one real friend.
What Lavender doesn't know, though, is that Alexa isn't happy either. She feels trapped by her clique, which has shut out her best friend and is dismissive of the crush she has on a nice guy outside their group. Both Alexa and Lavender want a different life. And on their thirteenth birthdays, they get their wish: blowing out the candles on their cakes, they make a wish to be someone else, and the next morning, Alexa wakes up as Lavender and Lavender as Alexa.
While they initially enjoy the perks of being someone new, both realize that maybe it's not all that it's cracked up to be in ways that they never could have predicted. A funny and touching novel about discovering oneself in someone else's body, SWITCHED AT BIRTHDAY is a sweet-natured and yet honest look at growing up.
Natalie Standiford was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, but now lives in New York City.
