TAKE BACK THE MAGIC
Getting to Know the Dead
Perdita Finn has studied with Zen masters, priests, rabbis, shamans, and healers, although her greatest teachers have always been the dead themselves. In TAKE BACK THE MAGIC: Getting to Know the Dead, Finn reveals that life is beginningless, love is endless, and the dead don't go anywhere when they die.
Weaving together memoir, history, and a spirituality based in ecology, feminist Finn recounts how she healed her relationship with her bitter patriarchal father - after his death - and tells other stories of souls coming back to help the living.
A ghost visits her infant from another life, a cat sacrifices himself for love of his owner, an aborted child returns to her mother at a better time, and the Virgin Mary makes an appearance. These journeys demonstrate that anyone can call upon the guidance of the dead and recover a relationship with the ancestors. As in her popular workshops, Perdita Finn offers explorations into the underworld to recover lost alliances and engage in healing conversations with those who have passed on. An inspiring invitation to healing in this life, and to experience that we are never alone, TAKE BACK THE MAGIC shows that the whole world is simply souls reaching out to and finding each other - and no one is ever lost to us.
Perdita Finn is the co-founder, with her husband Clark Strand of the non-denominational international fellowship The Way of the Rose, a dynamic community devoted to the Earth and the Lady "by any name you want to call her." They are together the authors of The Way of the Rose: The Radical Path of the Divine Feminine Hidden in the Rosary (Spiegel & Grau, 2019). A former high school English teacher, Finn worked for many years writing curriculum, teacher guides, and middle grade books, including the time travel series Time Flyers (Scholastic, 2006-2008). Over the years Finn has studied with Zen masters, priests and rabbis, shamans and healers, although her greatest teachers have always been the dead themselves. She apprenticed with the psychic Susan Saxman with whom she wrote The Reluctant Psychic (St. Martins), which was optioned by Shonda Rhimes. She teaches popular workshops on Getting to Know the Dead whose participants are empowered to activate the magic in their own lives with the help of their ancestors. Finn lives with her family in the moss-filled shadows of the Catskill Mountains.
