With the page-turning excitement and romance of classic adventure novels and a poignant story of sisterhood at its core - all the messy and beautiful truths of what it means to be family - it's also a thoughtful, nuanced, socially conscious look at the dark side of stories like Indiana Jones, the exploitation and theft and undeniable racism at its core, and, as Lee says in the attached authors' note, "the notion that archaeologists have the right to plunder other cultures for the sake of 'fortune and glory.'"
