THE ART OF BOB MACKIE
Celebration of the fashion and art of famed Hollywood designer, Bob Mackie.
For nearly six decades, the iconic Bob Mackie has been designing unforgettable clothing. His one-of-a-kind, glamorous - sometimes hilarious but always creative - designs have appeared on stages, screens large and small, run-ways, and red carpets worldwide. Mackie is a nine-time Emmy-winner, a three-time Oscar nominee, and recently won a Tony Award as well as the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achieve-ment Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
THE ART OF BOB MACKIEE is the first-ever, comprehensive, fully authorized showcase of Mackie's work, from his early days as a sketch artist for the legendary Edith Head at Paramount to his current, cutting-edge costumes for pop stars Beyoncé, Madonna, Elton John, Katy Perry, Tina Turner, Rhianna, and Pink to name just a few. As other designers have burst onto the scene and faded out of fashion, Mackie has soared from success to success, always remaining relevant because he has always been spectacular-ly fashion-forward. After rising quietly through the ranks of working film costumers under the mentorship of Ray Aghayan, his work on all eleven seasons of The Carol Burnett Show catapulted him to stardom. At the show's peak, he was designing up to eighty costumes a week, ranging from breath-taking, sequined-and-beaded evening gowns to some of the most over-the-top comic creations ever seen on television.
The book will have a Foreword by Carol Burnett and an Afterword by Cher - both who were known for their original Bob Mackie gowns and outfits.
