THE BOOK OF JOY
The Dalai Lama Desmond (M.) Tutu
Finding Enduring Happiness in an Uncertain World
His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu come together from April 20-24, for an historic meeting in Dharamsala, India, to collaborate in creating THE BOOK OF JOY. This meeting, also in celebration of the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday, allows these two great spiritual masters and moral leaders to spend an unprecedented week together in deep dialogue and playful laughter as they share their experience of how to find joy in the face of life's challenges.
The Dalai Lama has already coauthored a global bestseller called The Art of Happiness, but this is the first book that he has written with Archbishop Tutu. The ultimate source of happiness is within us, says the Dalai Lama. Not money, not power, not status, which fail to bring inner peace. Outward attainment will not bring real inner joyfulness. We must look inside.
This book is a unique collaboration that reflects the extraordinary friendship of the authors, who call each other spiritual brother. In order to ensure that THE BOOK OF JOY is as relevant as possible to people around the globe, they are inviting people to ask the questions about joy and happiness they most want answered on the Authors' Facebook pages. Once a list of the top questions has been compiled, people will have the opportunity to vote and choose their favorites. Archbishop Tutu and the Dalai Lama will then answer those questions during their meetings. Video footage of the answers will be shared after the event. Doug Abrams will be conducting the interviews and co-writing the book.
Although the forces of global politics kept them apart on Desmond Tutu's own 80th birthday in 2011, when the South African government refused to issue the Dalai Lama a visa, these two moral leaders will now come together to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday.
