THE CARBON ALMANAC

The Carbon Almanac Network, Seth Godin

It's Not Too Late

A new book about climate change, edited and with a foreword by bestselling author Seth Godin.
When it comes to the climate, we don't need more marketing or anxiety. We need established facts and a plan for collective action.
The climate is the fundamental issue of our time, and now we face a critical decision. Whether to be optimistic or fatalistic, whether to profess skepticism or to take action. Yet it seems we can barely agree on what is really going on, let alone what needs to be done. We urgently need facts, not opinions. Insights, not statistics. And a shift from thinking about climate change as a "me" problem to a "we" problem.

The Carbon Almanac is a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between hundreds of writers, researchers, thinkers, and illustrators that focuses on what we know, what has come before, and what might happen next. Drawing on over 1,000 data points, the book uses cartoons, quotes, illustrations, tables, histories, and articles to lay out carbon's impact on our food system, ocean acidity, agriculture, energy, biodiversity, extreme weather events, the economy, human health, and best and worst-case scenarios. Visually engaging and built to share, The Carbon Almanac is the definitive source for facts and the basis for a global movement to fight climate change.

This isn't what the oil companies, marketers, activists, or politicians want you to believe. This is what's really happening, right now. Our planet is in trouble, and no one concerned group, corporation, country, or hemisphere can address this on its own. Self-interest only increases the problem. We are in this together. And it's not too late to for concerted, collective action for change.

About the Founding Editor: SETH GODIN is the author of 20 international bestsellers that have changed the way people think about work and have been translated into 38 languages. He writes the most popular marketing blog in the world and speaks to audiences around the world. He is the founder of the altMBA, the founder and former CEO of social media pioneer Squidoo, the former VP of Direct Marketing at Yahoo!, and the founder of Yoyodyne, one of the first internet companies.

THE CARBON ALMANAC NETWORK is a team of over 300 researchers, writers, artists, and chart specialists located in 40 countries, ranging in age from students to seniors. In this unprecedented collaboration, a network of concerned citizens volunteered to work together to kickstart conversations about the most important issue of our time climate change. Their teamwork models the collaboration that they hope to see in the world: community-based efforts to save our planet that anyone can and should be a part of, regardless of political affiliation, age, profession, or geographic location.

An absolutely essential read for anyone who still has hope that humanity can save itself from the wreck it has made of this beautiful world. First you cry, then you act!

The book is just fantastic. I think it's going to be a huge success, by which I mean to break out of the silo and perhaps cause a shift in a larger public discourse. That would be the absolute best outcome, of course.

It's put together for folks like me, and maybe you, who are deeply concerned about the climate crisis, but are not scientists, don't run alternative energy companies, and can easily start to feel overwhelmed by all the ways that we could/should move forward to make a difference - a place where fear of doing the work in the wrong way keeps us from doing anything beyond sticking with the status quo. The book is loaded with real life, eminently learnable tips, tools, and visuals. It's both fun, and informative.

I really love what the Carbon Almanac Network has done. Totally geeked out over it yesterday. Echoes of the educational part of the Whole Earth Catalog for a new generation.

For some time I have been thinking that we need a sort of encyclopedia of carbon... It's now moot. Author, thinker, and canoeist Seth Godin has coordinated "The Carbon Almanac," what he calls the most important project of his career. Where I imagined an encyclopedia, he has produced a whole Earth catalog... It's marvelous... vast...easy to read...often hilarious...great teaching tool... often infuriating... Read more...
