THE DICTIONARY OF OBSCURE SORROWS

A collection of invented words, mostly stitched together from parts of other languages, that gives a name to feelings we all might experience but don't have a word for.

John Koenig is the creator and author of a website and YouTube channel that features a dictionary of made-up words called The Dictionary Of Obscure Sorrows.

Koenig has coined dozens of words since he founded the site in 2009, pinpointing and defining emotions many people have felt but haven't been able to communicate. Words like "lachesism," the hunger for disaster, and "sonder," the realization that everyone else's lives are as complex and unknowable as our own. The book will include hundreds of new words created for the book.
