THE EDUCATION OF MARGOT SANCHEZ

Lilliam Rivera

Margot Sanchez is having a summer to remember for all the wrong reasons. She ran up $600 in charges on her father's credit card, and now she's stuck working off the debt at her family's grocery store in the South Bronx. Instead of spending her summer with her new friends from the posh prep school Somerset, which she's been working hard to fit into - as one of a handful of students who aren't lily white - she's stocking shelves. She's made the right friends; she's begun to lure in the perfect guy. But now she's a captive audience for the cashieristas, who have been telling her more about her older brother Junior than she cares to know.

Her old friend Elizabeth is going out more and more with the artsy crowd and Moises, the community activist who picks fights with her brother. He seems like more trouble than he's worth. As one ugly family secret after another comes to light, Margot just wants to get away. But when she finally gets permission to borrow the car and go visit her Somerset friends in the Hamptons, things don't work out the way she would like, and all that family drama finally comes to a head.
