THE GINGERBREAD MAN LOOSE AT THE ZOO

Mike Lowery Laura Murray

It's zoo day for the Gingerbread Man's class! Their teacher has assigned them an animal-themed scavenger hunt for their field trip, and the Gingerbread Man couldn't be more excited to help his classmates follow the clues through the zoo.
But a place full of wild animals can be a not-so-safe place for a very tasty cookie. Fortunately, the Gingerbread Man is fast and clever and escapes from the animals who think he'd make a tasty treat. The only problem is--he seems to have dodged his classmates, too! When he crosses paths with a little lost joey that's escaped her kangaroo habitat, he knows just what to do: by following the scavenger hunt clues, he helps the baby find her mama and is reunited with his class once again.

Mike Lowery’s zoo animals are his cutest creations yet, giving even the Gingerbread Man himself a run for his money. Young readers will love solving the clues alongside our hero, then turning the page to see if their guesses are correct.

Laura Murray was a teacher before becoming a writer, and had to deal with many an escaped Gingerbread Man in her time. She lives in McLean, Virginia.
Mike Lowery's work has been seen in galleries and publications across the globe. He is Professor of Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta.

Told in spot-on, deadpan rhyme and illustrated in large, comic-book-style panels, this title will leave kids giggling as they follow the sometimes dire consequences of the G-man's efforts to be reunited with his class. . . . This reinvention of a venerable figure is funny to the max.

Lowery's cartoon-panel mixed-media illustrations imbue the highly sympathetic, wide-eyed confection with an abundance of personality...there's an endearing sweetness to this Gingerbread Man.
