THE MINUTES HOME
Richman weaves an intricate tale of three lives entwined by destiny: an Irish immigrant, a Vietnamese refugee child and a Vietnam veteran.
In 1979, Grace Kilkenny discovers a lost child on the street of her small suburban town. Her own life, haunted by the traumas of a childhood accident, fuel her desire to make sure this little boy is protected. Under the backdrop of America in the years after the upheaval of the Vietnam war, The Minutes Home will have you riveted as Richman weaves three stories of loss and redemption, pain and love. It will make you ask: How does one move the hands of time forward after unimaginable loss, while bolstering your heart, as you're reminded that sometimes it's the the most unexpected friendships that heal us.
The book has been carefully read for accuracy and sensitivity by both a Vietnamese refugee to the States, as well as a veteran who served in Vietnam with the Hotel Company 2nd battalion 26th marines. Alyson interviewed boat children who came here under extraordinary hardship, and also traveled to Vietnam for the research to gain a better understanding of the history and culture. For Jack's story she interviewed ten Vietnam Veterans, four from the same platoon.
