THE OLEANDER SWORD

Tasha Suri

THE OLEANDER SWORD continues the sweeping story of a newly-crowned empress and a powerful priestess in possession of forbidden magic set in a world inspired by historical India.
The prophecy of the nameless god - the words that declared Malini the rightful empress of Parijatdvipa - has proven a blessing and curse. She is determined to claim the throne that fate offered her. But even with the strength of the rage in her heart and the army of loyal men by her side, deposing her brother is going to be a brutal and bloody fight.

The power of the deathless waters flows through Priya's blood. Thrice born priestess, Elder of Ahiranya, Priya's dream is to see her country rid of the rot that plagues it: both Parijatdvipa's poisonous rule, and the blooming sickness that is slowly spreading through all living things. But she doesn't yet understand the truth of the magic she carries.

Their chosen paths once pulled them apart. But Malini and Priya's souls remain as entwined as their destinies. And they soon realize that coming together is the only way to save their kingdom from those who would rather see it burn - even if it will cost them.

Tasha Suri was born in London to Punjabi parents. She studied English and Creative Writing at Warwick University, and is now a cat-owning librarian in London. A love of period Bollywood films, history, and mythology led her to write South Asian-influenced fantasy.

Thanks to Suri's meticulously detailed worldbuilding work in the previous novel, the stakes and scope of OLEANDER SWORD fairly burst off the page... A stunner, and precisely the sort of middle book of a trilogy that will leave you desperate for the finale. Read more...

Epic fantasy readers must check out this series if they haven't already.

Suri laid the groundwork of this artful, immensely detailed world in book one, and now allows it to explode with politics, magic, and theology. The heroines are fierce and tender as ever, both brimming with a quiet, molten rage stemming from a thirst for vengeance, righteousness, and love... [A] taut, emotional sequel that will leave series fans eager for the finale.

A worthy successor to The Jasmine Throne, with all the pent up yearning, magic, warfare, and mysteries that you'd hope for... The characters are stronger than ever and the mythology of the world deepened in significant and terrifying ways.
